Sculptor Gian Lorenzo Bernini was only 23 years old when he was commissioned to carve a marble bust of Pope Paul V. Universally admired for his talent, he would later be appointed as the architect in charge of Saint Peter’s Cathedral in the Vatican; gaining fame throughout Europe as one of the greatest artists of his time.
