El Anatsui, Lines That Link Humanity

Lines That Link Humanity reflects Ghanaian artist El Anatsui’s masterful ability to transform common materials into a dazzling hanging sculpture. He often explores social, political and economic histories of West Africa and their interconnection with colonialism and slavery. The bottle tops refer to the literal economic exchange of liquor for human beings in the past while also pointing to contemporary issues such as waste and sustainability. The hanging sculpture measures 18 x 25 feet and appears from afar as shimmering veils or undulating tapestries.
