Amazigh (Berber)
From ancient times to the present day, working with limited materials but an extensive vocabulary of symbols and motifs, Amazighen across North Africa have created objects that are both beautiful and practical, including intricately woven textiles, incised metal locks and keys, painted pottery and richly embroidered leather bags. While the term “Berber” is often used to refer to the Amazigh, many prefer to be called Amazigh, which means “free people” in the Tamazight language.
