Middle Kingdom
Refers to the second of three great periods in Egyptian civilization comprising the Eleventh Dynasty and Twelfth Dynasty; some sources include the Thirteenth Dynasty. Many of the principles of Egyptian culture that had emerged at its outset and been codified during the Old Kingdom were adjusted and redefined.
