Archaic
Greek artists continued to develop their storytelling, and developed increasingly sophisticated methods of representation to support those stories; the city of Athens witnessed the rise and fall of tyrants and the introduction of democracy. This period is known for its large-scale marble sculptures of male youth (kouroi) and female youth (korai) as well as Black-figure vase painting, early red-figure vase painting. Major shifts include a new ideal focused on rigidity and symmetry in stone sculpture. Red-figure vase painting invented 525 B.C.E.
