Protoarchaic
The Protoarchaic saw increasing Greek settlement throughout the Mediterranean, as well as interactions with non-Greek cultures in the East and West; increased interest in depicting narrative; codification of Greek myths; formation of city-states; stone sculpture and architecture (inspired by Egypt); black-figure vase painting developed in Corinth c. 650 B.C.E.; black-figure adopted in Athens c. 625 B.C.E.
