The Spanish empire split the Viceroyalty of Peru apart forming the Viceroyalty of New Granada and the Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata. The Viceroyalty of New Granada encompasses the modern-day countries of Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, and Venezuela.
