Young British Artists (YBA)
Young British Artists (YBA) refers to Damien Hirst, Tracey Emin, Michael Landy, Gary Hume, Sarah Lucas, Jenny Saville, Rachel Whiteread and others many of whom had graduated from Goldsmiths College of Art in London and who were known for unusual art materials, experimentation, showmanship, and business acuman. There is no stylistic unity that relates the work of these artists though they have shown together, first in the exhibition, Freeze, in 1988 and they were collected early on by the advertising magnate, Charles Saatchi. By the year 2000, these artists were so well established, the term had taken on an anachronistic meaning.
