Robert Venturi wrote Complexity and Contradiction based on his study of Guilo Romano, Vignola, and Michelangelo and came to celebrate the tawdry, the ornamental, and the historically arbitrary opening up a deeply human form of architecture that would nevertheless be transformed by Philip Johnson and others into branded structures that celebrate corporate identity
