Umayyad
The Umayyad caliphate was the first Islamic dynasty. During this period, Damascus became the capital and the empire expanded. Art created during this period was influenced by the scrolling vines and geometry of the Coptic tradition of Egypt and Syria, Sasanian metalwork, and Byzantine mosaics.
