Metaphysical art
The word metaphysics comes from the title of a posthumous collection of 14 books by the ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle. It is an elastic term that includes the study of being (and non-being), of meaning, of free will, and other diverse subjects. Metaphysical Paintings often feature claustrophobic spaces, jarring or unnatural perspectives, long shadows, strongly contrasting light, and isolated figures that seek to represent the enigmatic quality of metaphysics.
