Minimalism

Minimalism was known early on as Primary Structures and ABC art; each an attempt to express the importance of the object while not referring to the practice of sculpture. Unlike sculpture, minimalists sought to create an abstract art that was divorced from representation and sought to create forms that had their own internal theoretical logic entirely divorced from practical use or emotion and that commonly used industrial materials organized repetitive units structured in grids.
