San

The San peoples are the members of the Indigenous hunter-gatherer cultures of southern Africa, and the oldest surviving cultures of the region. The San people are Southern Africa's oldest residents. Though they once lived throughout the region, today the San live mostly in the Kalahari, a vast, arid region that stretches across Botswana, Namibia and South Africa. Early European colonists called the hunter-gatherer San "bushmen" to distinguish them from herders. But, the San are not a monolithic group.
